The LED panels generate more than 70 kW of heat output, which poses a major challenge for cooling and ventilation. Domat therefore supplied a control system capable of integrating three heat pumps, two gas boilers, five air-handling units, and six geothermal boreholes into a single efficient whole. Nearly one hundred sensors continuously monitor the current state, and the software automatically adjusts operation to ensure optimal temperature and air quality in the halls.
Thanks to the intuitive interface, planetarium staff can easily manage the systems. If necessary, interventions can also be carried out remotely, ensuring quick problem resolution and smooth operation.
The planetarium uses deep boreholes that store excess heat in summer and reuse it in winter. Two storage tanks – for heat and for cold – help regulate energy consumption and contribute to sustainable operation.
“The project for the Prague Planetarium was not only a technical challenge for us but also a prestigious reference. It shows how intelligent building management systems can deliver efficient and long-term sustainable solutions. A big thank you goes to STIFRA Plzeň s.r.o and its director Petr Frána for their outstanding cooperation on this project,” says Tomáš Chadim, CEO of Domat Control System.
The Prague Planetarium is the first in the world to use this cutting-edge 8K dome. Projections surround the audience down to the floor, creating the illusion of outer space – the diodes can even display absolute black with no visible seams. As a result, visitors find themselves under a realistic starry sky, in the middle of a galaxy, or even among vibrant coral reefs.
Guests can also embark on an unforgettable journey through the Solar System with the charismatic guide, the Great Schiaparelli. From scorching Mercury and the rocky planets, past the icy giants and distant Pluto, all the way to the edge of our galaxy – breathtaking scenery, dramatic encounters, and reminders of Earth’s uniqueness await them.
But the planetarium is not just about journeys into space. Thanks to its technology, it also hosts multimedia concerts, theatrical performances, and experimental shows that push the boundaries of audiovisual experiences even further.
The result is a fusion of cutting-edge visual technology and smart building management – a space that delivers unforgettable experiences while meeting the highest standards of energy efficiency and visitor comfort.
