End of Merbon SCADA Deliveries

This year, we are preparing to discontinue deliveries of Merbon SCADA. This visualization software has been with us for a whole decade, but unfortunately, we are no longer able to maintain or supply it. In light of the requirements of the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA), we had to strategically review our entire system and prioritize those components that we can continue to develop and supply in the spirit of the CRA and at the required quality.

So what happens next?

You and your customers are likely to have the questions listed below – and we have prepared answers for them. If you have any additional questions, please contact your sales representative or our technical support at support@domat.cz.

What is the CRA (Cyber Resilience Act)? And how is it related to Merbon SCADA?

The Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) is an EU regulation in effect since December 2024. Starting in 2026 (or 2027 for some cases), most software application and hardware device manufacturers selling products in the EU will need to comply with its requirements.

The CRA, among other things, requires manufacturers to properly and efficiently manage security risks in their systems, continuously identify vulnerabilities affecting their products, and provide security patches. Non-compliance can result in penalties of up to €15,000,000 or 2.5% of the organization's total annual turnover.

As such, Merbon SCADA will no longer be developed, and we are leaving this role to companies that specialize in SCADA systems. Domat will focus primarily on the automation and HMI level (hardware and software such as PLCs, Domat IDE, Domat Runtime, Domat Visual, etc.).

Merbon SCADA is still in the 2025 price list – when do you plan to end its sales?

We plan to remove Merbon SCADA from the price list starting July 1, 2025. From that date, sales of new licenses will be discontinued. Support for sold licenses will continue for two more years, until June 30, 2027.

Will it be possible to order licenses after sales end?

Unfortunately, no. If you have a contracted project, please contact our sales department – we will find an individual solution together.

What about Merbon SCADA’s predecessor, RcWare Vision?

Sales officially ended in January 2025. If you wish to purchase an RcWare Vision license, you must contact the software authors directly – Energocentrum Plus s.r.o., www.energocentrum.cz. Development has ended, and support for sold licenses will continue for two years – until the end of 2026. From a CRA perspective, RcWare Vision is not suitable for permanent production use. On the Domat website, it is only available as a utility – a graphics editor for Merbon SCADA.

Will the two-year free update period still apply after sales end?

Yes, but the final official date is June 30, 2027.

Will it be possible to purchase annual updates after sales end? If so, for how long?

No, that will no longer be possible. However, upon request, we will provide the latest version from January 17, 2024 free of charge. This is a bonus service for customers as part of the product discontinuation and warranty fulfillment. This update will not be covered by the CRA.

If annual updates cannot be purchased, how can we ensure investment protection for operators? What if SCADA becomes non-functional after OS updates while still under warranty?

For new projects, do not agree to a warranty period beyond June 2027. We will keep the software functional for the duration of the warranty agreed with the customer.

Will it still be possible to transfer a license to another computer (free reactivation) after sales end? Until when?

Yes, this will be possible until June 30, 2027.

Until when can we include Merbon SCADA in project proposals/offers?

After the official announcement of the end of sales (i.e., after May 2025), it is no longer reasonable to offer the software.

What should we include in projects/offers instead of Merbon SCADA licenses?

Domat will no longer be a SCADA system distributor. Therefore, third-party solutions must be considered. Our control system supports the following protocols: BACnet, OPC, SSCP, SoftPLC Link. Domat will provide technical support up to the level of the communication protocol.

How should we handle technical support for alternative SCADA solutions?

Support for visualization programs is provided by their respective suppliers. Domat can assist but cannot (and does not have the capacity to) support installation, licensing, or the full range of functions of third-party visualization software. This must always be handled with the SCADA provider.

How long will technical support be provided for Merbon SCADA?

Active support will continue until the end of 2027. After that, the software cannot be updated. We will do our best to keep existing installations running as long as possible, considering the need to protect your investment.
